It seems like speech recognition is everywhere these days—in our phones, cars, and even in our homes. But how do we design for it? Do we have the tools for prototyping and validation? How about best practice guidelines? The medical field has been successfully utilizing speech technology for decades. In this talk, Anna will share her experiences designing speech-driven interfaces for physicians. She will cover the brief history of speech recognition technology, share some dos, don'ts, battlefield stories, and best practices that she has learned the hard way.

As a User Experience Manager at M*Modal, a speech technology company in Pittsburgh, Anna Abovyan brings order to the chaotic world of medical documentation. She leads a small but passionate team of designers as they turn awkward workflows into joyful experiences. UX process improvement, cross-platform interactions and endless opportunities to improve the little things around us are among her top interests. Anna holds a Master of Science degree in Applied Mathematics and Informatics from the Russian-Armenian State University.
